Our Mision

About Minnesota AFP

The Minnesota Association for Financial Professionals (aka MNAFP or Minnesota AFP) provides a forum for the exchange of ideas, concepts and techniques related to the fields of treasury management, finance, investment management, and banking. We encourage members to enhance their professional development through participation, education and networking. We also promote the spirit of unity and cooperation among our members and local businesses, government and educational institutions.

History

Minnesota AFP's origins date back to 1977 when it was the Twin Cities Cash Management Association. The association was formed as a non-profit organization and remains so to this day. The original mission was to provide a forum for both improving and recognizing the cash management profession through education and networking. When the National Cash Management Association changed its name to the Treasury Management Association (TMA), the Minnesota chapter followed suit, changing its name to the Minnesota Treasury Management Association (MTMA) in 1995.

During Minnesota AFP's 4 plus year history, the organization has developed a strong membership base that values the association's focus on its regional constituency and the issues that are important to them. We draw members from diverse businesses and organizations--from leading financial institutions and nationally recognized companies to universities and colleges, nonprofits, and well-known regional firms.

To better reflect the diversity of our membership, MTMA officially changed its name to the Minnesota Association for Financial Professionals (MNAFP) in February 2011. MNAFP is one of 57 regional associations affiliated with and recognized by the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) an international professional association with more than 150,000 members worldwide. Members of MNAFP have the option, but are not obligated to join AFP. Visit the AFP web site to find out more about the resources AFP offers to members.

Membership

MNAFP members come from diverse businesses and organizations--from leading financial institutions and nationally recognized companies to universities and colleges, nonprofits, and well-known regional firms. Business memberships consist of both corporate practitioners and financial service providers. MNAFP has approximately 175 member companies, reflecting the numerous Fortune 500 companies headquartered in the Minneapolis/St. Paul and surrounding areas. In addition, other non-profit organizations such as the Upper Midwest ACH Association (UMACHA) and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis are also members and regular participants in MNAFP-sponsored events.

Networking & Educational Events

Monthly luncheon meetings are the primary forums for providing members educational and networking opportunities. Meeting formats usually consist of speaker presentations or panel and round-table discussions. Members have a chance to listen to seasoned financial, investment managers, treasury professionals, business leaders, bankers, and other financial service providers share their experiences, best practices and current market trends. Members have the opportunity to ask questions, seek advice and stay abreast of the latest financial tools, techniques and ideas. Member liaisons who interact with the national AFP provide essential updates regarding industry standards and pending legislation.

Upcoming Annual Conference - May 6, 2025

Consistently rated as one of the finest regional conferences in the country, our marquee event is the Annual Minnesota AFP Conference. The 2025 conference will be the Association's 43rd Annual Conference. More than 400 financial professionals, academics and service providers, including sponsors and exhibitors, attend this one-day event seeking solutions to their treasury, investment, financial management, and other related challenges from industry experts, academics and practitioners like them.

Volunteers

MNAFP offers its members numerous volunteer opportunities via elected positions and various committee assignments designed to develop and strengthen organizational and leadership skills.

CTP / CCM / FP&A / CPE Recertification Credits

Attendees of the annual conference and monthly luncheon meetings earn Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) continuing education credits for CTP/CCM/FP&A recertification. In addition, attendance at both events may qualify for AICPA, MNCPA or MAPA CPE credits. Conference attendees can inquire further about the potential for these CPE credits by emailing the Minnesota AFP.
