President's Message

February 2020

Greetings MNAFP,

Happy February everyone! Even though the days are still  cold,  they are getting noticeably longer and we have actually seen the sun a few days this month which helps us remember that spring, or at least spring break, is just around the corner.

Our February Luncheon was replaced with an afternoon meeting and tour of the new Dayton’s Project in downtown Minneapolis. The meeting was limited to 50 people due to the number of available hard hats on site. As you can see from the pictures, we not only wore hard hats, but orange vests, and safety glasses. I think we all wore it well.

The presentation by Transwestern gave us a little history of the building along with an overview of what it took to turn the vision for the project into a reality, including the financing and tax credits. After the presentation we were able to tour the project including the two story atrium, food hall, new security system, office areas, and a very chilly visit out to the 7th floor patio/terrace overlooking downtown. The view was beautiful!! One of the many unique features of the building was the tenant gym complete with a regulation size boxing ring.  I can only imagine the HR conflicts that will be worked out there. After the tour, we enjoyed some food, beverages, and networking. I think everyone had a great time.

At our next luncheon,  March 12th,  Jason Smith, an interest rate product specialist from Bank of America, will be discussing the LIBOR – SOFR transition. Jason will help us understand why we are moving away from LIBOR, and what impact the change will have. You can register today at this link.

Our 38th annual Conference entitled “Disruptors” for Treasury and Finance Professional is right around the corner on April 28th. As always the conference will be held at the River Center in St. Paul. The upcoming Conference also brings the opportunity for Board Elections and Scholarship Award nominations. Please consider running for a Board position and/or nominating someone for the Bob Foster Scholarship. For more information on either, please check our website or reach out directly to Kate or a current Board member.

See you at Pinstipes on March 12th.
