President's Message

May 2020

Happy almost summer, and the reopening of our state.

As we continue to adjust, re-adjust, and adjust again to the craziness of COVID-19, MNAFP has done it’s best to continue to support its members with educational opportunities through our Virtual Conference. The Conference kicked off on April 28th with Keynote Speaker Andy Busch’s Presentation: Chaos to Confidence During Times of Economic Stress. Andy reminded, and encouraged us, that this is not the first Financial/Health Crisis that we have been through, and we can be confident that we will recover from this one, just as we have recovered in the past. Andy’s presentation was followed by additional breakout sessions. The conference continued on May 12th and May 14th with an opportunity to earn up to 9 credits.

Our Virtual Conference, as well as our entire 2019-2020 year, was very appropriately themed Disruptors. Little did we know when the theme was chosen, last July,  just how accurate it would be. The last-minute reinvention of our annual conference is just one example of the many disruptions that we have  experienced this year. I would like to thank all of you for your flexibility and for your support of MNAFP throughout the craziness of this year. I would also like to express how grateful I am to our Conference Sponsors, Conference Volunteers, Conference Co-Chairs, Mary Utech and James Nelson, and of course our coordinator, Kate Cole, for being able to change gears so quickly to make this year’s conference happen. Thank you to all of you!

Normally Conference is the time that we announce our Bob Foster Scholarship Award winner.  With our Virtual Conference, there was not an effective way to make that announcement, so I’d like to take this opportunity to announce our 2020 Bob Foster Scholarship Award Winner, Sherry Bridell. Sherry was co-chair of the Conference Program Committee this year and has worked on the committee for multiple years. She has been an asset to the team and our organization. We appreciate all that Sherry has done to help make our current and past conferences a success. Congratulations Sherry Bridell!!

It is also at the Annual Conference that we announce our newly elected Board for the upcoming year. This year, due to the many challenges that we have faced as professionals and as an organization, and the fact that those challenges seem to have affected our members’ desire to run for office, we  have asked existing Board Members if they would be willing to serve in their current positions for one more year. I am thankful that they have all accepted the challenge. This is an unprecedented move on the part of the board, but these are unprecedented times. We hope to be able to get back to normal sooner than later, as I am quite sure you have all read enough of my President’s Letters and would prefer to hear from someone new.

As we plan the Luncheon schedule for the 2020-2021 year, we hope to be back to normal/meeting in person, but will also be providing additional online credit opportunities. We will keep you posted as our schedule unfolds.

Thank you again for your continued support!
