Captives at the Core of Risk Financing

This session will describe the reasons many organizations make the decision to implement a captive insurance company. Risk Management, Financial, and Operational benefits of a captive will be discussed, along with the potential risks involved. Recent tax law changes will be discussed as well as recent case law updates.

This intermediate level program will meet the following learning objectives:

  • Attendees will gain understanding why a company would set up a captive insurance company
  • Attendees will be given the tools to find out the foundation necessary to establish a successful captive insurance company
  • Attendees will learn the potential benefits and risk involved with captive ownership

Speaker Bio:  John Ratelle, Vice President National Brokerage, Risk and Economics/Marsh
John Ratelle is a client executive in Marsh’s Minneapolis office. In this role, he leads and coordinates the delivery of all Marsh services. He is the principle contact point, maintaining overall accountability and deploying necessary resources to fulfill and exceed clients’ expectations in a diverse range of clients with specific expertise in the health care arena. Our featured Nonprofit for our December meeting is BestPrep.  We will have a short presentation from Bob Kaitz/BestPrep. Mr. Kaitz will present a short 3 minute video clip for attendees to watch and talk on who/what BestPrep does.  BestPrep is a statewide nonprofit organization with a mission to prepare students with business, career and financial literacy skills through hands-on experiences that inspire success in work and life. BestPrep’s programs engage 4-12 grade students and their educators in active learning, while connecting them to the world outside the classroom. Now, more than ever before, students need business, career and financial literacy skills and knowledge in order to turn the challenges of today into successful opportunities in the future.  Please help BestPrep with your monetary contribution.

HOLIDAY RAFFLE:  We have asked our members to donate items for our Holiday Raffle.  This will be held after the speakers have finished their presentation.  If you would like to donate any items you can contact Kathy here.

Participants can earn 1.0 CTP/CCM/FP&A credit or 1.0 CPE credit.

Advanced Preparation - A handout will be sent to all registered participants to read before the session.

All cancellations must be received in writing prior to noon two days before any monthly seminar/meeting.  We encourage substitutions at any time, let us know in writing via email or the person can just check with us at the event.  All no shows will be invoiced if not already paid.  Cancellations received more than 48 hours prior to the seminar receive a 100% refund.  Cancellations not received 48 hours prior to the meeting date will not be honored.  Requests for refunds must be received via email.  For more information regarding refund, complaint and/or program cancellation policies, please contact our office at 763-577-0018.

LUNCH Buffet:  Jax house salad, fresh fruit, beef tips with mushroom sauce, oven broiled salmon, wild rice pilaf, fresh vegetables, bread and butter service, coffee or tea. Dessert: Assorted bars and cookies.

Registration Pricing:

  • Member Pricing $35.00 per person through Monday, December 4, 2017, after Monday pricing is $45 per member.
  • Non-Member Pricing $49.00 per person through Monday, December 4, 2017, after Tuesday pricing is $59.00 per non-member.
