President's Message

May 2, 2016

The MNAFP’s 34th annual conference was another successful conference with over 500 people attending! I would like to thank conference co-chairs Mary Utecht/Lynn Slavik and all the volunteers who made the conference a fantastic educational and networking opportunity. Many of the attendees stated that the conference was “inspiring” and “had an awesome variety of sessions."

I would like to welcome the new MNAFP Officers for the 2016/2017 Fiscal Year:

  • President - Chris Fodor, CSM Corporation
  • Immediate Past President -Benita Bjorgo, Two Harbors Investment Corp.
  • Vice President - Becky Kellum, Capella University
  • Secretary - Rachel Steimer, PNC Bank
  • Treasurer - James Nelson, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota
  • Membership Liaison - Jessica Hendrickson, Valspar Corporation

I want to congratulate the Bob Foster Scholarship Award Winner - Sara Larsen/Bremer Bank! The scholarship will pay for Sara’s trip to the national AFP’s annual conference!

The last meeting for the 2015/2016 fiscal year will be at the Federal Reserve Bank on May 12th. Ms. Claudia Swendseid, Senior Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, will provide an Update on the U.S. Chip Card Rollout and What It May Mean for Card-Not-Present Fraud Rates! Ms. Swendseid will cover a wide range of topics related to the chip card migration including overall status and where industry focus will likely be next. Mr. Neel Kashkari, President, Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis will provide an introduction. There will be an optional tour of the Federal Reserve ahead of time. If you have not already registered, you can do so here as space is limited. Attendees for the tour and lunch will earn 2.0 CTP/CCM/FP&A/CPE recertification credits (all for only $35 with early registration for members!).

If you are looking to hire or make a job change in 2016, please consider posting a position or looking at the postings. The career center is focused on the finance marketplace and is a great resource to find qualified candidates or find a new job.
