President's Message

May 18, 2015

You missed out on a great meeting - Thursday, May 14th. Dr. James Paulsen, Ph.D./Chief Investment Strategist at Wells Capital Management addressed the current conditions of the U.S. economy and financial markets. He provided his insights as to where the markets are headed based on past and current conditions of the various industries (i.e. retail, auto, real estate, manufacturing, and construction) and will speak to key indicators of unemployment, consumer confidence and the stock and bond markets.

Thank you for those that were able to attend MNAFP’s Annual Conference this past April titled “Financial Innovations and Concepts.” This was the largest participation with over 525 registered and 40+ exhibitors! We received some great feedback about the conference including the following: “Very inspiring, insightful, fun and entertaining” and “AMAZING!” If you missed it, we hope you can join next season!

Thank you for everyone’s support and confidence in me as your President of the MNAFP. We have been very strategic in the selection of speakers and the increase in participation reflects that we are on the right path! We historically have averaged 70+ participants at the monthly session and have increased over the past few years to 100+! We have several items in the works for the next season! Special thanks to my awesome board and committees! It’s been such a great experience and I am very proud to be a part of such a valuable organization for the Treasury/Finance communities.

I would like to congratulate the new incoming board:

  • President – Benita Bjorgo, Two Harbors Investments
  • Vice President – Chris Fodor, CSM Corp.
  • Secretary – Rachel Steimer, PNC. Corp.
  • Treasurer – Normita Rahman, CBRE
  • Membership Liaison – Chris Kobold, MidCountry Bank
  • Immediate Past President – May Vang, BlueCross and BlueShield of Minnesota
