President's Message

January 17, 2017

Minnesota AFP's next meeting is February 9th.  Our session is titled:  Capital Structure & Liquidity Optimization – A Framework for Approaching Debt Financing presented by Scott McCarty, Senior Relationship Mgr. – Middle Market Banking for Bank of America Merrill Lynch. A treasury team has an important strategic role to play in advising the broader management team and board of directors around capital structure and liquidity needs for the business. This session will provide a framework that can be employed to create sound recommendations around capital structure and liquidity. Included in this framework are a foundation in corporate finance theory, metrics to benchmark, qualitative factors to weigh, and trade-offs between different financing alternatives to consider. The current financing market environment and common debt financing alternatives will also be discussed.  You can view the full session description and bio here.

Minnesota AFP's officers' election is coming up.  Our current vice president Becky Kellum has this to say about her experience: "I’ve been a member of Minnesota AFP for five years and a Certified Treasury Professional for two years. Last year before the board elections I decided to run for the vice president position because I wanted to give back and help serve an organization that I care very much about. Being on the Board has been a meaningful way for me to apply my experiences and strengths to provide educational topics and networking experiences to financial professionals in the twin cities. It has been a great experience to collaborate with the other board members, engage and network with Minnesota AFP members, schedule speakers for monthly meetings, and attend the regional officers meeting in Washington DC to gain perspectives from other regional AFP organizations throughout the US. It was amazingly easy to get a variety of speakers lined up to present and it was a joy to work with these individuals. Board members are all busy professionals with full-time jobs and the time we meet is efficient. The time commitment has been very doable. Being on the board of Minnesota AFP is a great experience for me both personally and professionally."

We are excited to kick-off the MNAFP PILOT Mentoring program for our members.  Mentoring is an opportunity for professional growth and development through active engagement from the mentee and mentor.  The goal of mentoring is to provide development opportunities where the mentee gains additional insights, perspectives, advice and support from the mentor.  To view more information about our Mentoring program, please view our special webpage here.

Did you know MNAFP has a Career Center Site? In today’s tight labor market it is a great place to market any positions you have opened. If you are looking for potentially a career change or a new opportunity it is a great place to review what is open in our market. What better place to utilize given the number of members/companies that are part of MNAFP. Please check out the Career Center Site here.

We hope you can join us on February 9, 2017.
