Happy New Year to all of you! You might be one of the 40% of Americans who set a New Year’s resolution and you might even be one of the 8% who achieve your goals, or you might be like me. I don’t set resolutions. I don’t like failure and that’s what a New Year’s resolution is to me. I do, however, set goals for myself; goals that are achievable (I need to feel success now and again), or they might be stretch goals (really- I’m going to run a 5K?). But I choose to set my goals throughout the year. So as we all head into a new year, I encourage all of you to set some form of goal both personally and professionally in 2014.
And what better way to start achieving a goal of learning more about the Finance industry than attending our January 9th meeting: The Science of Investing: How to Get Better Control Over Your Investments. Our speaker is David Bromelkamp, President and CEO, Allodium Investment Consultants.
Many investors spend too much of their time focusing on things that are out of their control such as predicting stock prices, forecasting interest rates and timing the markets. Academic research has shown that there are just a few things that every investor can do to improve their control over their investment portfolios. This presentation will discuss how to adopt a more disciplined approach to investing and how to avoid letting your emotions interfere with good investment decision-making. We will focus on a few things that you can control as an investor including the development of a formal investment plan with a broad diversification strategy, an approach to reduce your investment expenses, and a strategy to reduce investment turnover which can lead to a more tax efficient investment program. Finally we will address ideas that will help you to stick to a disciplined investment strategy in the noisy world of 24 hour a day cable news and other financial media. You can register here for his session.
